When my oldest daughter was diagnosed with asthma, I realized I had made a huge mistake.
I had been a pack-a-day smoker since I was 16, and when I had my first kid I tried to make a change. I stopped smoking in the house, because I didn’t want her to be harmed by the secondhand smoke. What I didn’t realize at the time is that smoking outside wasn’t enough. The smoke particles clung to my skin and my clothes, and still hurt my daughter’s lungs. After that I had to reconsider my habits, not just cigarettes but medical marijuana, too. Medical marijuana has been my crutch for over two decades, and it was something I did every single day. Medical marijuana was my biggest vice, and the only way I could get any sleep at night. As much as I loved smoking out and getting high, there was no way I could put medical marijuana above the health and safety of my kid. Thankfully this didn’t mean I had to quit cold turkey, I just had to switch over to a less harmful brand of cannabis products. I set an appointment at the local medical cannabis dispensary so that I could spend an hour with a budtender learning about my options. There are more kinds of smokeless cannabis products than I ever imagined, especially in terms of edibles. This medical cannabis store had a full aisle of candy and treats that were infused with THC or CBD oil. I wish I would have done this a long time ago, but from now only I will only use smokeless cannabis products.
